Harry’s Journey with GOSH
Harry had open heart surgery at the age of 8 months at GOSH and we thought that was the beginning and end of our relationship with this amazing hospital. Unfortunately, in 2020, after having COVID, Harry was seriously unwell and was diagnosed with Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and Macrophage Activation Syndrome. We spent many weeks on Pelican Ward during three different hospital admissions and had three visits to PICU. All the staff in the hospital are amazing people - Harry was known as Spiderman due to his love of the superhero and is still called that by many now when we visit for check ups. All the consultants at GOSH were amazing and apart from their outstanding medical knowledge, they played darts with Harry and allowed him to give them superhero tattoos! Harry’s consultant fought to secure more expensive but less invasive treatment for him, resulting in a happier Harry. Harry was taken to GOSH PICU on two occasions by the CATs team and the South Thames Retrieval Team who were amazing people and saved his life. The nurses, physiotherapists, play therapists, cleaners and catering staff are all very special people and made both Harry and my stay at GOSH the best it could possibly be. Harry still talks by name, recounting some memories, about many of these special people - they made a real impact on his life and recovery. Thankfully, after a long journey, Harry is in remission. We still have check ups for his heart, kidney function and SJIA and Harry enjoys our visits to GOSH and always hopes he will bump into some of his special friends. Such an amazing place that I hope none of you have to visit with your children but if you did, it’s the best place to be. Harry has been training hard to be able to run 5km and as soon as he achieved his goal, he wanted to raise money for GOSH so please help him out to raise as much as he can. Thank you for taking the time to read Harry’s story and for sponsoring us all so we can support this amazing place. Love from The Sheehans xxx
Harry’s Journey with GOSH
RBC Race for the Kids 2025
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
Please consider sponsoring me. Together, we can build it. Together, we can help beat childhood cancer.
