I'm joining the race to help beat childhood cancer

I’m taking part in Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s family festival and fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, to raise money to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

When I think of children, the first thing that comes to mind is the words: joy, sunshine, and growth. I've always pictured children running around in parks, playing with their friends, having the time of their lives. However, not every child gets to experience the same joyful childhood others do.
Globally, the WHO approximated 400,000 children and adolescents (0–19 years) develop cancer each year, with leukemia, brain tumors, and lymphomas as the most common types. Survival rates vary significantly, with cure rates over 80% in high-income countries but less than 30% in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer aims to improve survival to at least 60% globally by 2030.
As a medical doctor with a heartfelt interest in pediatrics and child health, I hope to make meaningful contributions toward this goal. Running is one of my favorite pastimes and physical activities. It's a way to keep myself healthy amidst a busy schedule, while also spending time with my family and friends over the weekend. With the RBC Race for the Kids 2025, I am looking forward to having a fun run while joining hands with others to support children and families facing cancer, and to contribute, in my own way, toward brighter and healthier futures for them.

RBC Race for the Kids 2025

GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.

We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.

Please consider sponsoring me. Together, we can build it. Together, we can help beat childhood cancer.
