Running for the Ones Who Keep Us Going – Our Story
Three days before his 27th birthday, my husband Maggz had a heart attack.
It was sudden, terrifying, and something we never imagined would happen at such a young age. The cause: a condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy — an inherited heart disease we had no idea he carried.
We later learned that our children now each have a 50/50 chance of inheriting this condition too.
That was a heartbreaking reality to face as parents — but we didn’t have to face it alone.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has been by our side since before our children were even born. From regular scans during pregnancy to specialist appointments and emotional support, GOSH has walked this journey with us every step of the way — and continues to do so today.
Now, we want to give something back.
We’re running the GOSH race not just for our own family, but for every child and parent facing the unthinkable. For the families sitting in waiting rooms holding their breath. For the newborns, the toddlers, the teens — and the future generations that GOSH will be there to help.
This race is our way of saying thank you — for the care, the compassion, the expertise, and the hope they give.
And we need your help.
Please donate whatever you can — no amount is too small. Every pound raised goes directly to helping families like ours get the life-saving support they need from GOSH.
Let’s run for the ones who keep our hearts going.
With love and thanks,
Team Papenthein
RBC Race for the Kids 2025
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
Please consider sponsoring me. Together, we can build it. Together, we can help beat childhood cancer.
