Amalia's story

Hello and thank you for reading my page.

My name is Amalia and I am 2. I love playing with my friends at nursery, pasta bake, and being very kind. I don't like folic acid because it is yucky. I also don't like taking medicine even though it helps my leg not hurt. At GOSH, everyone understands when I don't like things and they help me by explaining what's happening and bringing me toys and stickers to distract me from anything painful.
I go to GOSH for my arthritis. They know all about little people and are very kind. They help my Mummy, Daddy, Savta, Grandpa, and teachers know how to help me. They even help my other doctors know how to look after me. Now my leg doesn't hurt any more and I am very strong.
When my leg was sore, I couldn't run and jump with my friends. I told Mummy and Daddy I was very sad. Dr Nagesh injected my knee to make it all better. Before my joint injection, GOSH charity gave me bubbles and an enormous sheet of 3-d stickers. I was so excited and took them to nursery to share with my friends at the Shabbat party. Mummy helped me stick them all over this box which I use to keep my special distraction toys for bloodtests.
GOSH charity also support music. There was a lady playing the violin and I danced with her. I was sad as I couldn't have any food or drinks, but the violin made me joyful.
When my knee was better, I needed lots and lots of physio to get strong and supple again. I went to rehab twice a day for two weeks. Physio was very hard work for me and I couldn't travel to and from the hospital 4x a day, so GOSH charity provided a patient-hotel so Mummy and I could sleep over next to the hospital.
At the rehab, I met lots of other children just like me and made lots of friends. I also met two very special doggies. The friends and doggies encouraged me do my exercises. By the end of my rehab, I was lifting 2 kilos (1 on each ankle) all by myself 90 times!!!
Now I am strong and supple and feeling lots better, I can run and jump and climb. I want to run very fast to raise money for GOSH charity so that other children can also have stickers and bubbles to help them feel better if their legs hurt.
Thank you for reading my story. Love, Amalia xxx
