Why I'm taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
When I was pregnant with James, we found out that something wasn’t quite right. So I had him a little earlier than planned and, after a difficult first few months, was eventually referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
GOSH has been part of our lives for almost his entire little life. James is still under the care of two wonderful consultants there, one looking after his kidneys and another looking after his bladder, with regular appointments, scans, tests and check-ups along the way.
We have seen first-hand just how incredible this hospital is and how lucky we are to have it.
James doesn’t have cancer, and this isn’t his battle but every time we walk through those doors, we see gorgeous little children and their families facing journeys we can’t even begin to imagine.
So when we saw that RBC Race for the Kids was raising money to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH, we knew we wanted to support it.
Anyone who knows James also knows there is absolutely nothing this boy loves more than RUNNING. 😂 Soft play, toys or pretty much anything else doesn’t excite James like running does… all he wants to do is run.
So for his first ever proper race, James is running 2K to help raise money towards a centre that will care for children with cancer.
He won’t understand what he’s running for. To him, it’ll probably just be the best day ever because somebody has finally given him permission to run as fast as he possibly can. 😂
But we’ll know.
And one day we’ll be able to tell him that his very first race was for the other children at the hospital that has taken such wonderful care of him.

RBC Race for the Kids 2026
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.

What a wonderful thing to do! Our little Finley also received incredible care with GOSH in his first few years, they are utterly amazing!! And raising money for the hospital and the cause is really inspiring. Go Jimmy boy - we are so proud of you! Love Finley & Sophie xxx
