We’re joining the race to help beat childhood cancer by taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
This October marks 6 years since Sophie went into remission, and we are lucky to have her with us to celebrate another milestone like this!
Sophie's story always reminds us of the power of medicine and science, but above all, it was a journey of faith, friendship, care and love, and GOSH and all its staff were remarkably important with their care and support for Sophie and our whole family.
Since day one, when we arrived at GOSH with Sophie yet to complete 2 months of age and feeling very poorly, when we got the leukemia diagnosis, during all the procedures and exams, during chemotherapy rounds, blood transfusions, ICU stays, highs and lows, for 4 months GOSH was Sophie's home, and we felt cared for and safe there. And although we don't feel as scared as we did in those days, this story is still a big part of Sophie's and our family's journeys every day. But we know that anytime we need, we have a team at GOSH that can support us with answers.
We have the greatest and deepest gratitude for all GOSH has done for our Sophie. Without the life-saving treatment she has received at GOSH, she wouldn't be here with us today. Sophie is still an outpatient at GOSH and will continue being one for the rest, or a long part, of her life.
That is our family's reason to continue running and raising money for this amazing institution that made a difference in our lives and continues to do so for so many other families every single day.
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
