I'm taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
On October 11th the Barnes tribe & Lylas best friend will be taking part in Race for the Kids to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital - even Rory’s getting involved and joining the race on his bike!
As you all know, GOSH holds a very special place in our heart as she is currently seen by four different departments within the trust. Therefore, we aim to try help raise money for the hospital as a whole in as many ways as we can. The hospital is currently building a ground breaking cancer centre for children and we’d love to do our bit to give back to this amazing hospital and help in any way we can.
Kadys story:
After nearly losing Kady to an ADEM attack four years ago, she then had a further three attacks which have hugely impacted on her life. Watching our baby lose everything (movement, speech, the ability to talk, etc) was the most difficult time in all of our lives and we are so eternally grateful to the team at GOSH for helping her recover.
Kady is without a doubt the strongest little bean we’ve ever met but every day she faces different struggles and it has been through the incredible support from our amazing medical team around Kady that we have been able to keep up her fighting spirit. The nurses and doctors have become like extended family and we will forever be grateful for their ongoing support.
Raising money for GOSH is crucial for us - currently, there is no approved drug for Kadys neurological condition, MOGAD. With a condition such as MOGAD, the more attacks a person has, the higher their chance of permanent disability or worse. Currently, Kadys condition is stable and she is almost 3years relapse free due to the treatment she receives every four weeks as well as daily medication but these medications come with added risks. Kady is part of an ongoing study through GOSH to help medical professionals understand this awful disease better and hopefully one day discover a cure.

RBC Race for the Kids 2025
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
