I'm joining the race to help beat childhood cancer

I’m taking part in Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s family festival and fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, to raise money to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Why I'm taking part in RBC Race for the Kids

Our son Billy recently had an accident where he fell of his bike wasn’t going fast dogs ran in front of him and to avoid hurting them he broke quick and went over the handle bars. As a kid I’d fallen of my bike lots of times had a grazed knee scar under my chin but never needing to go to hospital. Billy was knocked unconscious we got him to Hillingdon Hospital where they done a scan and found he’d fractured his skull and had a couple of bleeds on the brain. It’s every parents worst nightmare one minute you’re having a nice family walk next minute you’re in A&E. They were preparing us for the worst and as the tears ran down my face I thought surely this isn’t it…Billy was in so much pain even with pain relief. When your child looks you in the eye and says HELP ME! And you feel totally helpless but continue to reassure them even when you don’t know the outcome and the only thing you can do is hum in their ear like you did when they were a baby to get them to sleep I never want any parent to ever to be there.. We are so lucky to have the NHS that Hillingdon Hospital rushed us to Great Ormand Street Hospital then we were in the best possible capable hands free of charge. I can’t tell you how good this place is unless you experience it for yourself you’ll never know and I never want you to experience it. So Billy would like to do something to raise money for GOSH please give what you can by donating or joining us on the walk sometimes you just need to be asked so if you want to join us come along if you don’t fancy the walk please donation anything is something thank you and thank you to Sarah for putting this in front of us x

RBC Race for the Kids 2025

GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.

We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.

Please consider sponsoring me. Together, we can build it. Together, we can help beat childhood cancer.
