We're taking part in Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s family festival and fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, to raise money to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Why I'm running at RBC Race for the Kids 2026

I am a first-year PhD student at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, where I research spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a rare genetic disorder affecting around one in every 10,000 babies worldwide. If untreated, SMA causes progressive muscle weakness, which can impair a child’s ability to stand, walk, speak and even breathe. My project focuses on how SMA alters brain development and will help doctors and scientists better understand this condition, ultimately improving treatment and outcomes for children with SMA.

I am incredibly grateful to be funded by the UK’s Child Health Research Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and I wanted to give something back to the GOSH community by taking part in this race. I’m running in support of the cutting-edge research, world-class patient care, and compassionate support that GOSH provides to children and their families. In that spirit, I’ll be taking on the race alongside my family, who are all seasoned runners — so I’ll have plenty of encouragement along the way!
