I'm joining the race to help beat childhood cancer

I’m taking part in Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s family festival and fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, to raise money to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Raphy Laming – running and singing

Raphy Laming has a special connection with Great Ormond Street.  In February 2020, after Brexit but before Covid, he fell gravely ill.  He was rushed to GOSH where the heroic brain surgeons saved his life.  I will never forget the nervous nights spent sleeping on the floor next to his bed in the neurosurgical ward, nor the kindness and expertise of the nurses, from Amy to Zoe.

Raphy has since made a full recovery, and has discovered a talent for opera.  He has joined the Royal Ballet & Opera Youth Opera Company (find out about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbI3Pj17wkM ) and has sung on the main stage at Covent Garden (read reviews of Tosca, in which Raphy sang the role of Young Shepherd in Tosca, here https://bachtrack.com/review-tosca-mears-netrebko-de-tommaso-finley-hrusa-royal-opera-london-september-2025, here https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/reviews/tosca-review-royal-opera-house-anna-netrebko, and here https://www.thestage.co.uk/reviews/tosca-review-royal-opera-house-london-oliver-mears-anna-netrebko).

Raphy has also taken up running, and with the RBC Race for the Kids 2025 taking place just after the last night of Tosca, there is no better timing and no better cause.

RBC Race for the Kids 2025

GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.

We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.

Please consider sponsoring me. Together, we can build it. Together, we can help beat childhood cancer.
