Why I'm taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
Hi, I'm Seb. When I was born, I had a lot of health issues. I was born with a condition called TOF (trachea oesophageal fistula), which basically meant that I didn’t have a full oesophagus and the top part of my stomach was attached to my trachea. (Basically I can’t cough properly, it’s sounds wheezy, and I also find it harder to swallow foods, and my laugh is wheezy as well). I was also born with a problem with my skull. All of this meant lots of operations, but the amazing doctors and nurses at great Ormond street hospital have and still are looking after me since I was 1 year old. I had my earlier surgeries in Brighton, where an amazing surgeon called Victoria Scott (thanks if you’re reading this) saved my life. I will be forever grateful. I’ve received so much support from the NHS and my family and friends, so I wanted to do something to help other children at Great Ormond Street Hospital, who have to go through difficult times. Thank you for reading my story.
RBC Race for the Kids 2026
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
