Why I'm taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
My son was once a little patient at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
When he became ill and needed surgery, our family was already going through an incredibly difficult time. His dad was unconscious in another hospital, and I was trying to be there for both of them at the same time.
It was one of the darkest periods of our lives.
I will never forget how quickly and carefully the team at GOSH diagnosed and treated my son. But beyond the medical care, it was the kindness, reassurance and confidence they gave me when I needed it most. At a time when everything around me felt uncertain, knowing that my little boy was in such capable and caring hands meant more than I can ever properly put into words.
Today, he is happy, healthy and doing really well. We still return to GOSH every year for his follow-up appointments, and over time the hospital has come to feel like a very special and warm little community to us.
That is why we are taking part in RBC Race for the Kids. We may only be able to do our small part, but we hope that by fundraising for GOSH Charity, we can give something back and help more children and families receive the same extraordinary care and support that once meant so much to ours. ❤️
RBC Race for the Kids 2026
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
