We're taking part in Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s family festival and fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, to raise money to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

The race is done!

Thank you for sponsoring Esmé and Inigo to scoot 5km for Great Ormond Street this morning! You raised over £1000 including gift aid. 

Esmé in particular is delighted; she says ‘Thank you. My favourite bit was when I met the buzzy bee [a runner in an inflatable costume], that’s my favourite part for me! I got a medal, I loved getting a medal, and I was so tired.’ 

Esmé completed her race in just 39 minutes, and Inigo in around 50 minutes.

In 2024, Inigo was diagnosed with meningitis at 11 weeks old. He was cared for by UCH and GOSH and made a full recovery. 

It is tiny recompense to help GOSH fundraise and spread the word about their new children’s cancer centre.

This is the second year that Inigo and Esmé have joined Race For The Kids. Last year, Inigo (not yet two) ‘walked’ the course in a baby carrier; this year, he will be scooting and has been practising avidly on his way to and from nursery. Last year, Esmé completed 5km in 75mins; this year, she’s aiming for sub-1 hour…

We’re joining the race to help beat childhood cancer by taking part in RBC Race for the Kids

GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.

We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
