Why I'm taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
Every year at Race for the Kids, you look around and realise everyone is running for someone.
A child who came through surgery. A family who spent months on a ward. A little one who isn't here anymore and is remembered with every step. Stories of survival, resilience, remembrance, and people choosing to stay hopeful. For one day, they all end up in the same place.
Ours started a few weeks before Christmas three years ago, when our son Liam woke up after having a stroke in his sleep. Great Ormond Street Hospital cared for him through the hardest weeks of our lives, and they've been with us ever since.
Liam is now 7. He's just started a new school while moving up a year, and is thriving. Jujitsu, football, tennis, climbing - he does it all at full speed, and we're so grateful for the progress he's made.
This is our third year running. What I love most is what it shows our kids. They see hundreds of families who have been through something hard, turning up together, cheering each other on.
The NHS continues to do incredible work, and GOSH means the world to the children and families who pass through its doors. GOSH Charity funds the research, equipment, and family support that go beyond what the NHS can cover.

RBC Race for the Kids 2026
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
