How your fundraising will help beat childhood cancer
The money raised from RBC Race for the Kids will help build the new Children's Cancer Centre at GOSH.
Research and treatments have dramatically improved survival, but cancer is still the biggest killer of children aged one to 14 in the UK.
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
That's why we're building a world–leading, child focused Children's Cancer Centre, where more children can have the best chance and the best childhood possible.
Now we just need people like you.
This year, we're hoping to raise over £1 million, but we need you to help make it happen. Join RBC Race for the Kids and run, walk, wheel or scoot to help build the new Children's Cancer Centre at GOSH and save more lives.
Together, we can build it. Together, we can help beat childhood cancer.
Charlotte's story
At just four years old, Charlotte was diagnosed with a brain tumour and transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for treatment. Now eight, she’s back at home with her family and has returned to school.
Following surgery at GOSH to remove the tumour, a routine MRI showed that it had returned. Although the tumour was benign, the only option was chemotherapy, as it was too close to her brain stem to operate.
Charlotte began an 18-month treatment course, but thanks to stable scans, the programme ended two months early. Today, she’s doing well and returns to GOSH every six months.
"GOSH has become an extension of our lives," Charlotte’s mum, Clare, says. "It's been a surreal two years.
"We signed up for RBC Race for the Kids in 2022 because we were very keen to give back to GOSH. We had a really good time, so we decided it was something we'd do every year! It’s a lovely day.”
