Why I'm taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
In 2020, my son, Cillian was born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), which is a rare birth defect where a hole in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest cavity, stopping the lungs from growing normally. This went undetected in scans so it came as quite a surprise to us. Luckily, he was rushed to GOSH right away where they were able stabilise him, and at 2 days old he was able to get live-saving surgery. He spent his first 5 weeks in GOSH and they were truly incredible at taking care of Cillian, but also supporting us as new parents to a sick child. They put us in a flat nearby so we could be with out son and made the whole experience that much easier. We are forever grateful for the amazing work GOSH has done for our family and we know they do it for so many others. As an RBC employee, I'm glad we are able to help organise such a great event to support a charity that means so much to my family. That is why we run the Race for the Kids.
I’m joining the race to help beat childhood cancer by taking part in RBC Race for the Kids
GOSH already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers, and new treatments are giving hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH's current cancer facilities.
We need a new home for breakthrough treatments and pioneering research, so we can save more children's lives. And because cancer shouldn't get to steal anyone's childhood, we need a place that's more than a hospital – a place that's a school, a playground, a garden, and so much more.
